My Biological Alarm Clock

This was in the Newspaper today

It's called "clocky" and for those who love to press the "snooze" button, well, the clock has wheels and rolls away to a different spot each time, so you HAVE to get up.

If you snooze, you lose your hiding clock

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Before you hit the snooze button a second time on this alarm clock, you'll have to hunt it down.

The shag carpet-covered robotic alarm clock on wheels, called Clocky, rolls away and hides.

The clock is the invention of Gauri Nanda, a graduate student - and occasional oversleeper - who works in the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

''I've been known to hit the snooze bar for a couple hours, wake up two hours later and be completely shocked,'' said Nanda, 25.

She made a prototype for Clocky from foam, a pair of wheels and a circuit board connected to small motors.

''It is programmed to tell the motors to move randomly, to generate random speeds and directions so that the clock ends up in a new place every day,'' she said.

Clocky gained attention after it was noticed by bloggers. Nanda's adviser, V. Michael Bove, Jr., said hundreds of people interested in buying or selling the clocks have called and e-mailed.

MIT owns the intellectual property rights to Clocky and other student inventions, but Bove said Nanda would receive a ''significant share'' of any revenue generated by its sale.

And before you think "oh wow, letti's extravagant!", well, I DON'T have one of those. What I have instead, is THIS waking me up with mega whimpering every morning.

Well, he's the right colour and he's furry too.

I saw this and wanted one for my son. He hit the snooze button on his alarm a record 12 times the other day. Needless to say he didn't make it to his appointment. I never set my alarm anymore. My two dogs insist on being fed at 5:30 every morning. They also use the whining and cold nose routine! Henry is looking very cute and LARGE these days!!!

I think I need one of those! :-)

I like your version better, though I'm sure that those without a Henry would benefit from clocky.

I read about this a little bit ago and thought it was a great idea - the alarm clock you have to chase around the room!

I wish I had an alarm clock like you do, a PUPPY!! lol...I have wanted a dog for years, but my parents won't get one b/c we travel so much that the puppy would just get in the way. :'(
I'll eventually get one.

Me and my "Squishy" are doing GREAT!!! I have never felt like this before. I'm on cloud 9! EEEKKKK!!!!

Well, I should go! Tata!!

I'm not sure Henry will be much different when he grows up! Our boxer, Buster, still wakes us up at 5:30 EVERY morning so we can let him out to function.

Oh OH OH!! I WANT ONE! Damn! I was supposed to get up at like 11 am today, but ended up dragging myself out of bed at 1. And my alarm doesn't even havea snooze button! I kept resetting it to every half hour or so and going back to sleep.

It would probably have taken me less effort to just get up, but well.. :D

Gravatar I would much rather be woken up with pooch whimpering too! that alarm clock is very strange.

Gravatar I agree with Sharron, I would rather have a loving pooch to wake me. Although I do have a kitty that yowls after the alarm goes off the first time. And she doesn't stop until you open the door to show that you are up.
