My Dog has adjusted to DST

Daylight Saving Time is messing with me..

In Malaysia, because day and night hours are nearly the same length all year round, there is no need to adjust clocks. The only time I remember the adjusting of clocks was when East Malaysia and West Malaysia synchronized their clocks and that was only 1 or half hour difference ( I forget now), all the way back in 1982.

Some other places on Earth, however, have more daylight in the Summer than in Winter.

Last Sunday, we had to "spring forward" on hour for the spring/summer time and it seems like Henry adapted from Day One. I didn't reset the clocks before we went to bed and so when Henry started making "I need to go out" noises on Monday morning, I got out of bed and looked at the clock - it said 6:45 a.m.

Now, Henry is a creature of habit and schedules and usually starts getting some "urges" at about 7:45 or 8:00 a.m. so i was kind of irritated that he had woken me up an hour earlier.

Little did i know he was just more efficient at Daylight Saving Time than I was, and with DST, it already WAS 7:45a.m.

* Daylight Saving Time saves energy. Based on consumption figures for 1974 and 1975, The Department of Transportation says observing Daylight Saving Time in March and April saved the equivalent in energy of 10,000 barrels of oil each day -- a total of 600,000 barrels in each of those two years. California Energy Commission studies confirm a saving of about one percent per day.

* Daylight Saving Time saves lives and prevents traffic injuries. The earlier Daylight Saving Time allowed more people to travel home from work and school in daylight, which is much safer than darkness. And except for the months of November through February, Daylight Saving Time does not increase the morning hazard for those going to school and work.

* Daylight Saving Time prevents crime. Because people get home from work and school and complete more errands and chores in daylight, Daylight Saving Time also seems to reduce people's exposure to various crimes, which are more common in darkness than in light.

I'm going to have to readjust to sunset at 9.00pm again soon.

Ah, yes, DST... I'm still stuck on winter time... BLAH!! That's why I am sitting here at 12:12am I guess, I still think it's only 11:12am.

You probably already know this, but some states in the US as well as some counties out of states do not do the DST...
In 2003, I went to Indiana, which does not do DST. It was very strange, me and the girls left from MO on Friday morning and gained an hour going out there. We came back on Daylight Savings Day, Sunday, and stayed the same. It was weird. lol

We've been on daylight savings time (called British summer time) for a week already because the UK changed their clocks on Easter weekend! What I find odd here (from an American point of view) is that there's only one time zone. It makes life easier though.

I hate changing the times. My whole system gets all screwed up. I had to deal with losing an hour AND go back to school from Spring Break. I'm still trying to catch up on sleep.

At least the dogs can handle the changes! lol

Interestingly enough my parrot was also very thrown off by DST. She usually arises from sleep at the same time my children and I do, 6:30 am. But that Monday morning she started making her little complaining noises when we got up and tramped through the room her cage is in at the new time of 6:30 am and she stayed in her nest box until the proper time, 7:30 am.

Gravatar I always have trouble commenting on the other one. Maybe because I'm in Germany? I know my dog dosen'tknow about how we change the the clock. Altough after about 2 weeks she's into the new time. It must be the internal clock thing, because in the first few days my body feels it too. I know it's wierd, but you do get used to it.

Gravatar I'll try again - my comment didn't appear on blogger.
