Good Grief

I never stop marvelling

at the kinds of "national days" and "weeks" and "months" that are celebrated here.

Tomorrow's National Ice Cream Day!!!!

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day.

He recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food that is enjoyed by a full 90% of the nation's population. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these events with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."

The International Ice Cream Association (IICA) encourages retailers and consumers to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month. In 2005, National Ice Cream Day will be Sunday, July 17.

Yeah I know I've said it a thousand times, but I agree that we Americans are strange. So many holidays, I think it's rediculous as well. Sheesh.

Well, since today is National Ice Cream Day, I might go get me a really good one. I usually don't go out and get ice cream, but I might make an exception for this one day. hehe....I like strawberry and I also like mint chocolate chip.

I just read your post...I didn't even know that and I went to get ice-cream with John. Perhaps the "holiday" (I use that term loosely) explains why in cool, foggy San Francisco the line was OUT the DOOR at the local ice creamery yesterday!!!!
