Balloon Non Fest and More Food

We had been looking forward

to the annual Abilene Balloon Fest, but this year was pretty disappointing because it was windy as usual ( hey, we have the largest wind farms in the WORLD here in Abilene - almost right next door to us! ) and a bunch of flights were cancelled, and the night time flare was cancelled.. David and I had brought his dad there, and "set up camp", al fresco sitting up on the back of the pickup, only to have the program cancelled due to windy conditions. Bleh.

On the other hand, we saw the Austin End of the Line 4-man kite team do their aerial acrobatics with their lighted up kites that looked like UFOs in the dark night, which was super cool. I shot some video, but it turned out too dark so I thought, "feggedabout posting it on here".

On a brighter note, I tried out a recipe that was on the all recipes' website, seeing how it was Sunday and I didn't really feel like slaving in front of a hot stove. So, I opted for a slow cooker meal, and the chicken was wondermus! Plus, there was a pot luck lunch at church today, so cooking was easy peasy today :)

And of course, it's football season, so....... GO DALLAS COWBOYS!!!!!!

ACTS 2:46 - 47

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the
Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Getting ready for Halloween

I love getting into the different seasons

and the different cultural celebrations/observances.

And Halloween and Fall/Thanksgiving isn't any different. David got this ghoulish looking thing at the local Big Lots, and she has been hanging on the tree in our front yard, giving ME the hibbie jibbies!

It has been a relatively "mild" summer compared to the previous years, and the lawn had been greening up nicely, and we had been clipping it regularly, really short, so that now, a big part of it almost looks like a golf green. The problem has been keeping the dreaded weeds at bay - crabgrass etc - which are now being choked by the lawn grass that has gotten thicker after we started clipping it really short. ANYWAY, my plans to mow the lawn has been thwarted these couple of days due to heavy rains..

BUT with that rain came nice cool weather and a beautiful sunset...

The pretty templates for the photos were made with an online Photoshop type application website called Flauntr, which is really super cool!

5. Another picnic at Abilene State Park with close encounters of the wildlife kind

— Proverbs 15:13,15 —

A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit.

All the days of the oppressed are wretched,
but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.

Keeping up

I hate that I've been neglecting my blog

used to blog every day or every other day, and now I find myself blogging every week or every other week! This HAS to stop.

Fall/Autumn resolution : Blog at least once in two days, even if it's something insignificant, because this will be a virtual memory bank for me.

A snippet for now:

Weight loss so far , in lbs... ( in give or take about 2 1/2 months ) = 15 lbs

update ( 10/1/07 = 124 lbs - weight loss so far - 17 lbs )

Hoo ah.

Labor Day Getaway

With all the animals and responsibilities,

it gets to be quite a logistical nightmare for David and I to get away for even the day. But we thought we needed to get our and do something different for a bit.

So, for labor day, we took half a day off and went swimming at the Abilene State Park pool and had a little barbecue dinner and campfire till dusk. Hmm.. romantic :)

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.

I killed my Rice Cooker

I don't cook rice very often nowadays,

and I certainly don't have the conventional ubiquitous rice cooker that is in just about every Asian household any more. BUT I did ( *sigh* ) have a microwaveable rice cooker that was every bit just as good.. till a few days ago, when I killed it.

Like I said, I hadn't cooked rice in a while - at least not from scratch - a lot of what i do with rice nowadays comes from the Ready-in-5-minutes precooked brown rice or wild rice form. Feeling somewhat nostalgic, I thought I would try to cook some rice from scratch.

Bad Idea.

I overestimated the time and underestimated the water, and the result was a meltdown in our microwave - forget the noxious fumes that came pouring out of the microwave for a moment, or the now black charcoal rice that was left over - David was totally horrified when he smelt something burning ( I was in the other room ) and saw the rice cooker ITSELF bubbling in the microwave. EGAD.

At first we went running out of the house after turning the oven vent on, but after a while, David thought it was funny enough to blog, since I usually post something that I'm proud of, that I did for the Letti Thursday meals. So, here's the damage, in full its full digital glory...

On a more successful note, I made Pecan crusted fish and fried rice for Letti Thursday.

Genesis 1:29
And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
