It's summer time, alright.

Good Grief..

Isaiah 4:6

It will be a shelter and shade
from the heat of the day,
and a refuge and hiding place
from the storm and rain.

NxNW

Close Encounters..

So I was making breakfast in the kitchen yesterday when what sounded like some kind of sonic boom exploded overhead... Our place is on the flight path of airplanes flying in and out of Abilene, so it was no big deal to hear airplane rumblings at times. We also have an Air Force Base in town, and so we are also used really loud roars from the jets now and again.. but THIS was ridiculous. I thought "oh, another one of those"... and then it went by again, and again and yet again! This loud loud WHOARGHHHSHHH overhead... And it was driving the dogs crazy.

So I walked outside and saw this crop duster flying back and forth over our property, dusting the field right next to us, flying so low and swooping in over and over, using our property to circle back to the field.

It felt like it was out to get me, like how Cary Grant was being hunted down by the crop duster in the Alfred Hitchcock movie, North by Northwest.

Who knows what kind of herbicide/pesticide/fertilizer fell on us yesterday. Bleh.

Allergy Season

I don't know which one the culprit is,

but I'm allergic to some weed that grows by the roses. Last year, I got some on my arms, but this year, I managed to get some on my FACE! So I'm walking around with red, crusty, itchy cheeks. ARGGGGHHHH.

*sigh*

Anyway,

David said I had to blog what I made for dinner on Wednesday, which was broccoli cheese rice and chicken pot pie.

and for Letti Thursday, I made sweet & sour chicken, stir fried Napa Cabbage, and more fried rice.

Tyre Trouble

We've been working in the yard

and extending the lawn from in front of the house to across the driveway where there is this big space, waiting to be worked on. Anyway, David and I have put sod down on about half of that area, and there's still more sod on our trailer, waiting to be laid.

Speaking of trailer, we were on our way home from Lowe's a couple of days ago, and were literally just FEET from our front gate when THIS happened to a tyre we had just put a plug in...

A tyre that had been patched prior to getting the load of grass, had decided to die on us and fall off the freakin' rim! Anyway, we inched our way back into the driveway, close enough to unload some of the turf, and we had to go and get a new tyre today, get the Walmart guys to put it on the rim, and David put it back on the trailer. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the little incident.

Food Glorious Food

I'm not a wonderful cook

by any stretch of the imagination, but when there is only 1 authentic South East Asian food place in town, I really HAVE to stretch my imagination and try to come up with something resembling anything from home :P And it's a good thing David enjoys them too!

Stir Fried Vermicelli

Baby Bok Choy with Carrots

Chicken Curry

Genesis 9:3

Everything that lives and moves will be food for you.
Just as I gave you the green plants,
I now give you everything

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Agony and Ecstacy

Congratulations to Tyler and Holly

and the rest of the gang of the 1 act play from Munday High School for coming in second place at Austin at the State level UILs.. Hurray!

On a sadder note, we did not have bible class today, for all of us went to attend Sheila's funeral. Sheila was a sweet sweet lady who attended our bible class, and had been doing so way before I was in the US. She was only 49.

Birthdays and Stowaways

Part 1
Walter celebrated his 89th birthday

a couple of weeks ago, along with Joy, his grand daughter in law.. Cindy made some wonderful shake n' bake/taco seasoning chicken and Judith made a seriously amazing corn casserole.

Part 2
The Stowaway

Okay.. so today we were getting into the car to go to Walmart to get some supplies. David's shades were on the floor of the truck, which was weird, since he had left them on the dashboard the night before. I get into my side of the truck and I find my little stuffed "naked mole rat" missing from its place on the dash.

David : Wow, it almost looks like the shades were shoved off the dash
Letti : Someone stole my naked mole rat!!
David : You think it could have been one of the outdoor cats?

( there are cats that hang about our yard and property, and that David puts food out for, - not to be confused with the others in the house and catteries. )

Letti : That back window looks like it is cracked open enough for a cat to get in..

We both look around, I even get stuff out of the back seat ... no sign of any cats or any other creepy critters.. so we go about our shopping at Walmart, put our stuff in the back seat and get ready to leave. David gets in the front seat and there is suddenly a commotion and crashing of stuff in the back seat..

THERE WAS A CAT FREAKING OUT IN OUR CAR!

Memories of my "cat in the bed almost scratching my eye out" incident flood my brain and I immediately jump out of the car while the frantic cat jumps about in the car, from the front to the back, onto the dashboard, between seats, trying to escape, tail all poofed, and David looks amusingly at me.

Anyway, to make a long story short, the cat calms down, "I" calm down and slowly get into the car, we drive home, open up the back door and the cat zooms off onto the yard and into the brush.

Hoy..*rolls eyes*
