Four Eyes

RIP Glasses

Never put delicate things like your glasses near the edge of the table, where a little boy can get his hands on them, and pretend they were bendy pipe cleaners.

Photobucket

Especially when you have just one pair of them.

To be completely fair, they were long overdue to be replaced, and momma was procrastinating seeing the optometrist for an eye exam, seeing how the last one was done about 4 or 5 years ago.

Photobucket

So the little boy just helped nip that procrastination in the bud, and momma got herself an appointment at Walmart tomorrow to get her eyes checked & pick out a ( couple of ) pair (s) of new frames.

Grandad's Gig

We were invited by Grandad

to one of his speaking/story telling gigs over at the Rose Park Senior Citizen's Center - which is quite an awesome facility, by the way. He had been invited by the local AARP to tell stories before their meeting started.

I'm sure I've mentioned in the past about Grandad's Awesome Story-Telling Career. He still does this on a regular basis, and has hopes to see ALL his stories in print. We already have 110 of those in Volume 1 of his book, which is available at CafePress.

( yes, this is a shameless plug for my FIL, unbeknownst to him :) )

There was a pretty good turnout that day, which meant a nice sized audience for him.

Grandad is such a natural when it comes to this, it is no wonder he gets invited all the time to speak and share his stories. And the man's memory is just mind blowing.

Photobucket

He loves getting the audience to participate and is great at ice breaking.

We brought Jaxon along, and at first, before the meeting started, and everyone was just starting to arrive, he did a little exploring.

Photobucket

But when Grandad started to speak, we had to put him in his little stroller and try to keep him occupied.

Photobucket

Even Aunt Cindy tried to keep the little boy amused with her little drawings long enough for Grandad to get through his stories.

Photobucket

But of course, little boys have minds of their own too, and have adventure and curiosity coursing through their little veins, so it wasn't long before mummy had to wheel him out of the room to keep from disrupting the meeting.

Photobucket

All in all, it was fun & Grandad's stories were enjoyed by all, and Jaxon enjoyed being fawned upon by all the doting ladies and gents at the center :)

Water Babies

Jaxon sees Grandad even more than ever now.

We've been spending quite a bit of time over at the Hendrick Rehab Pool.

David managed to talk his dad into exercising in the pool, even if it meant just walking very slowly. We were all very pleasantly surprised when his dad agreed to try it out. We broke out the extra pair of swimming trunks and his dad loved it so much, we've been going 2 to 3 times a week for the past 4 weeks or so now.

Photobucket

He loves the feeling of buoyancy, and weightlessness, as well as all the strain it takes off of his knees and ankles. He's doing more and more laps and truly enjoys his time at the pool.

Photobucket

David usually walks/swims when his dad is exercising, while I cruise around the pool with Jaxon in his stroller. When the boys have had enough, I take a dip and do a few laps while David takes over "Jaxon duty".

4th of July ( Part 2 )

a.k.a Remember the year we got rained out..

We had planned to have the 4th out at our place like the previous couple of years. I made a bunch of BBQ chicken and fries, and got our tables out and got the red, white and blue table cloth on them and everything...

Photobucket

And David had spent a lot of time working on the yard..

Photobucket

Alas, it had been a rainy week.

And sure enough, as best laid plans go, shortly after the first guests arrived, it poured.

Photobucket

So we packed up our stuff and called everyone else who were on the way that we were relocating to Grandad's house,

Photobucket

where the food was still yummy, and lots of fun was had :)

4th of July ( Part 1 )

Saturday Excursion with Grandad

What does one have to do with the other? Well, we sneaked in a mini excursion with Grandad - around the block, over to church for the 4th of July neighborhood parade. I know, we got off easy this week :)

Grandad had quite the vista view, but Jaxon was raring to go go go, threatening to turn over his stroller in his attempts to escape the dreaded contraption.

Photobucket

So, instead of seated comfortably in a camping chair that was all laid out, and enjoying the parade,

Photobucket

I was wrangling a very determined little explorer

Photobucket

who climbed over hills and vales, traversing vast parking lots and corridors, AWAY from where the "action" was.

( Jaxon : "What do you mean? I AM the action" ) - quote courtesy of cousin Shana

Photobucket

And of course, little boys love picking up random pieces of stuff and lugging their treasures around with them.

Photobucket

And what's more fun than braving puddles of water?!

Photobucket

Oh, and while we're at it, let's trespass onto some unknowing stranger's front yard and play with their mulch!

Photobucket

To be fair, I did catch glimpses of the parade, and there were always pictures from the Dad Cam, as well as in the paper :)

Photobucket

Happy 4th of July, y'all.

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
