Pre-Excursion Excursion

Summer Nights

were made for watching movies out of doors, all stretched out on a lawn.

One Friday night last month, there was a showing of "The Blind Side" in one of the parks in town. We had already watched it, but were curious all the same, as to how it was going to be set up. I know. We're nosy parkers.

So here we are, decked out in our PJs, curious about where we're off to at this time of night.

Riding INTO the sunset for a change

Watching the "inflatable movie screen" get prepared, and the crowd start to trickle in

Photobucket

That was about as close as we got, and we didn't stay much longer either.

Photobucket

The Little Boy of course, fell asleep riding around...

And then woke up right before we got home and wouldn't go back to sleep for hours.

*sigh*

Gordon Lightfoot Concert

David and I got a chance to have a night out last week, even if it was just for a couple of hours, to see Gordon Lightfoot in concert right here in Abilene.

Photobucket

We managed to get great seats in the front row, smack dab in the middle. Sure they put a few more rows of temporary seating in front of us, but it was still awesome.

Thank you Mamo for watching Jaxon!

Sunshine Saturday

The Big Country Iris and Daylily Society had their annual plant sale last Saturday, and that's where we went for our excursion with Grandad.

Photobucket

He had been very active in the society in the past, with a beautiful show garden, and so it was a nice treat for him to get to spend the morning with some friends he hadn't seen in a while.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Of course, it was also a time to show Jaxon off to his mates :)

Photobucket

I wheeled the little boy around the place for a little bit, but he made it clear he wasn't quite content with being pushed around, no pun intended. :P

Photobucket

So it wasn't long before he was set loose unto the Garden Center and busy exploring.

Little boys love water features, and Daddy was there to see that Jaxon was safe while splish-splashing.

Summer Time Bounty

We've been enjoying

figs and grapes over at Grandad's house.

Photobucket

David and I planted a couple of grape plants at Grandad's house a few years ago, and although they started producing fruit last year, it wasn't anywhere near what this year's "harvest" was.

Photobucket

Sure, it is still a "young'un" as far as fruit plants go, but they had some of the juiciest yummiest grapes ever.

Photobucket

Grandad also has a fig tree in the back which has been there FOREVER.

Photobucket

Every spring/summer, it just goes crazy producing figs and I just stand there and gorge on figs along with the birds ( and bees ).

Yum.

Saturday Excursion with Grandad

Keeping It Local

I've mentioned that Grandad's knees can't really take long journeys, and so we've been doing short jaunts, keeping near Abilene. A little over a month ago, we went to the Grace Museum with Grandad, to view an exhibition on Ansell Adams' work.

Photobucket

I "drove" Jaxon around, while David "drove" his dad.

Photobucket

Jaxon was quite impressed with fun "Sound Wall" where you make music by touching the different pieces of wood art on the wall.

Photobucket

There was a little corner with a couple of saddles and costumes where little ones could dress up as cowboys and have their picture taken.

Our little boy did NOT want his picture taken.

Photobucket

He promptly escaped and was spotted seconds later, running through a hallway, shrieking.

Photobucket

While the men were admiring fine art, Jaxon and I found our way to the Children's Museum part of the Grace, which I think Jaxon much rather prefered, judging from all the climbing and "gamboling"

Photobucket

All in all, it was a great short little trip :)
