Table Cloth Clips

I got these from the Dollar Tree a while ago, but they got stuck in a drawer and forgotten about.

Then, I found myself counting to 10 each time I had to readjust the table cloth and its plastic cover over and over, several times a day.  The culprits? Well, everyone, I suppose.  But most glaringly, a little boy who would grab the table cloth when he climbed into his high chair, or when he was doing stuff at the kitchen table.

These aren't the most aesthetically zen things you might want on your kitchen table, but so far, they have worked.  And THAT has been totally amazing. I mean, one less little "irk" in your day can be quite big :)

Anyway, one of them's bits have snapped and broken from being a little too in the way, but so far so good.  And it was just a dollar for the set of four :P

I am totally incredulous

According to the hubs, these have been out there FOREVER.

I just can't believe it took me all these years of grocery shopping to finally lay eyes on one.

And I still can't believe it exists.

Apparently, a LOT of people can't believe they exist either. One blogger has become kind of semi famous for chronicling the opening and cooking of the aforementioned can of chicken.

It looked a little horrifying coming out of the can in her photos. I know I'm Chinese and am supposed to have a steel stomach to all kinds of culinary experiences, but this may be something that I will either never go near, or finally do, out of some sort of morbid fascination.

Rest Stop

I stepped outside one morning to some overwhelming chirping noises.

I look up and it's like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

Yeah, sure, it's not every day that you wake up and your front yard's bird population has increased by 5000 percent, but I didn't think too much of it until I was getting ready for the blog post.

When I looked closer at one of the photos that I had gotten of the birds, I noticed that some of them had red "shoulder pads" type thingies on their wings.

A little bit of Googling found them out to be Red Winged Blackbirds, ( well, maybe some of them were ), and they were probably taking a breather on their migratory journey down south!

Dittos for Kiddos

The sale is finally here.

I am usually more interested in books and the odd toy or game, but this time I got a few items of clothing as well.

As usual, I had some items consigned, and THIS was the line that met us when we arrived to shop the consigner pre-sale.

Seriously.

Even the news truck was there.

A taste of home

I grew up in the corner lot of a row of colonial type double storey shophouses.  Our family rented the lot until we moved to the house my parents presently live in, back in 1986.  Anyway, back to the house I grew up in... It had a garden next to it with fruit trees which my grandfather tended to.  Along the fence of that enclosed "garden" area, grew a plant with purple vines and deep purple "berries" which stained your fingers if squished.

My grandmother would pluck the leaves and we would have them with soup/broth along with our meals sometimes.

It was had a very distinct odor and was a little "slimy", but not quite to the ladys fingers/okra proportions type of slime.  I had no idea what it was called when we were growing up coz even my mom called it the "slimy vegetable".

Well, I came across some at the Filipino store the other day, and while still a little unsure but almost convinced that THAT was what it was, I got some and stir fried them for dinner.  I had to warn David about the sliminess as well as the very "green" taste before I offered him some.... His comment? A cheeky, "Surely there is a way to make it taste like it didn't just come out of a pond.." : P
