Perks of Living in the Country

Pretty gruesome stuff for some, and definitely dangerous, but I thought this was super cool.

Flat Tyre

We were on our way to lunch with Lin when the car started wobbling left and right.  At first it was so subtle, it was only in my subconscious.   A few seconds later, I started to really feel the waviness of the ride.  That's when I noticed the hubs starting to look for a place to stop the car.

Thank goodness there was a large open compound in front of the Hamby Water Supply office where we could stop and survey the damage.

We had had a tiny little air compressor that would plug into one of the cigarette lighter deals, but it was doing NOTHING.

The hubs got the tools out of the back of the car, jacked it up, and we looked for the cause.  It turned out to be a pretty good screw that had hitched a ride on our tyre.

Meanwhile, the little boy asked if he could get out and run around,

while the hubs crossed the road to the Church across the street to see if they would happen to have a better air compressor.

Several people stopped to offer their assistance, and one couple ( with their two boys ) went to the nearby Walmart, got a Fix A Flat thingy and the pokey hole repair kit, and came back to us.  They were such a blessing.

Meanwhile, Jaxon got to play with their two boys while the men got to work trying to patch the tyre up.

We were very fortunate to have had so many concerned people stop by to offer their help.  When we thanked them and offered to pay them for all the things they had bought, the couple said that it wasn't necessary, and that they would be glad if we passed on the good turn.

Such sweet people.

Wind and Dust

Whenever it blows like this, the hubs likes to remind us that all that brown that we see in the sky, all that dust? It's from West Texas, all the way from Seminole :)

Life Finds a Way

No, not quite like what Ian Malcolm meant ...

but rather, I was cutting into a Spaghetti Squash the other night, and hey, look what I found :)

I've transplanted it into a little cup now, just for the fun of it.

Might as well help it along, aye?

Favorite T Shirt Woes

My favorite t shirts always seem to develop little holes in the front around the belly area.

I often wondered WHYYYYYYYYY, when it struck me that it must be because I wear them so much and they rub against the seat belt and the studs on my jeans, and get well, worn down.

I have since come to find out that it is an apparently well known, if not dreaded phenomenon.

Sunday Brunch

I like traditions - they are comforting to me.

We still carry on the practice of meeting up for brunch on Sundays with Uncle Lin.  Usually, the hubs will cook some beans in the crockpot and I will make some corn sticks and ball some watermelon to bring along.
Mar 04 Sunday Lunch-001
We get the rest of the lunch from the Deli, and usually have a great meal with good company.

The little boy has been really good about helping get the utensils, setting the table and filling the cups with water from the soda fountain.   The cleaning up after though, still needs a little bit of nudging, but we are getting there. :)

More Kitty News

I used to not be able to have any alone time in the bathroom because a certain little boy would insist on sharing a joke, a piece of news or join me in the restroom for no reason at all.

I thought those days were over.

Apparently not.

Even when she is not having Kitty Jail time in there, it has turned out to be one of Silky's favorite hangouts.

And that face that seems to go, "Er, so what seems to be the problem?" slays me.

You were a sweet sweet girl.

Easter 2018

This year wasn't as crazy as the previous years, seeing how it almost coincided with the little boy's birthday and all.

We DID go to one church event though, and as always, the little boy loves doing all the crafts that he could get his hands on, and oh yes, The Bouncy Castle is a perennial favorite.

And there is nothing quite like the thrill of the chase.
Whenever we get home, it is almost like the little boy Totally Forgets all about the candy, which to parents everywhere would definitely be A Good Thing.

We got some Egg Decorating Kits at Walmart, and set to work.

I think they turned out brilliantly.  We had a little basket from previous years, which along with some dried grass from the yard, made for quite a pretty presentation.

Then there is the Home Made DIY Easter Egg Hunt, which is ALWAYS way more challenging than the ubiquitous "Have a field strewn with plastic eggs and let the kids loose at 'em" way of doing things.

Sometimes I get to a point where I think, "I have no energy to do this", but when you see the little boy's face, so full of glee, you think, "I would bravely ANYTHING you throw at me, and infinitely more for this child".

The Little Boy Turned 9

Seeing how his birthday was on a Friday, it got turned into a weekend bash :)

Firstly, at Sunrise, the boss Ray surprised us with a plate of little Sesame Seed Balls, filled with yummy red bean paste. :)

We also met a few people we knew, and the little boy received all kinds of well wishes, which he thought was just fabulous.

We stopped by Fort Imagination, seeing how it was a beautiful day, and it looked like a whole bunch of other people had the same thing in mind.

He helped me decorate his birthday cake - the one we were going to have at home to celebrate on the actual day.  He had wanted a Despicable Me themed cake, and so our first cake was a G for Gru cake.

He received a Doodle Book from Poh Poh,

and some StikBot Action Packs from us.

Which he couldn't help but get right to work on :)

The second cake I made was for the party at Stephanie's house, with the cousins.  It had to be a number 9 and part of the Despicable Me universe, so this is what I came up with :)

It was great that a bunch of the cousins could make it :)

I had gotten some yellow play-construction hats and put some Minion goggles on them, and I had gotten some blow-up antlers with toss rings that Jet absolutely loved.

I sooo love the fact that there are so many little boys of around Jaxon's age in the family,  that they can all just have fun together.

Once again, tthere is a little pang in my heart when I think of our little boy growing up , but then part of me is so excited for all that he will experience and the man that he will become :)
