CNY at ACU

We managed to find out that there was an ACU Chinese New Year celebration this year, through our waiter, Oliver, over at Sunrise Restaurant.  He would make sure that our names were on the list and told us not to worry about it at all.

There wasn't a very big crowd, but rather cosy.

We met up with Cindy there, and grabbed a table to sit with her.  We were later on joined by Kilnam Cha and his lovely wife.

I am actually quite glad for this little bit of my culture in a place where Asians make up a very small percentage of the population, and most of those are ones who have come to attend school at the local universities.

Happy Chinese New Year, y'all.

Bike Riding at ACU

The little boy had been riding around in circles out at our place, and I knew he craved a change of scene...

and so, we asked Daddy if we could go biking on the ACU campus..

which really has miles and miles of paved sidewalk,

where the little boy could bike, and the parents could do some power walking on. :D

We had a lovely day for it, bright and sunshiny, and needless to say, the little one had a fabulous time. :D

Happy Chinese New Year 2020

As usual, there is hardly any ( if at all ) Chinese New Year atmosphere here in Abilene.  The only CNYish thing that we'll be doing is attending a gathering held by the Chinese students over at ACU in a few days.

But till then, the little boy got red packets and blessings, and we tuned in to CCTV programs on Youtube for a little bit of festivities in ushering in The Year of the Rat.

A Walk by Zoo Lake

At the end of our day out, we decided to stop by the Park by the Zoo for a bit.

We had walked around this part of the park many times before,

and the view is always amazing.

This time, however, we detoured onto a "path, less traveled".

and ended up by the back gates of the Zoo,

and making a new friend.

Life in a Small Abode

When you have as little counter space as I do, ( literally, what you see in the pic is just about all I have that is usable ) your sink also doubles as a chopping board.

At some point, the hubs and our neighbor cut up a heavy duty chopping board that would fit exactly onto the sink opening, and that has been a real blessing.

The sink opening actually DOES have an original cover that you can use over it, but it is soooo tremendously heavy that it is totally and absolutely impractical for the amount of times that I have to remove and re-place that in a day.

And, thank goodness there is a little pop up side part on a hinge that I can raise to help a little with the footage conundrum.

Nevertheless, I am quite happy NOT to have a large kitchen to clean up each time. :D

My Little Cubby Hole

Here's the view from my little window while I sit and prepare/correct school work and generally anything else computer related.

In The Fall and Winter Time, and even Early Early Spring, I try to have my window open as much as possible.  It faces West, and so by the time Mid Spring and Early Summer come along, the sun would be coming in too much in the afternoon for it to be bearable. The glare in my eyes alone would be enough for the curtain to come down.

But during these few months when the Sun is so far south in its journey across the sky, I love my view, especially at Dusk, my favorite time of the day.

Someone's feeling a little poorly today.

Poor kid. Rest well and feel better soon.

At least there's TV and your tablet to keep your spirits up :D

Snow Day!

We woke up to quite a bit of snow ( for us ) on the ground, much to the little one's delight and glee.

The dogs were intrigued and spent a longer time than usual going about their business, checking out the snow.

Of course, the first thing the little boy wanted to do was get bundled up and make snow angels, even if the amount of snow on the yard wasn't all that much.

We took a little walk around, just taking in how the snowfall had changed the scenery around us so much.

Of course, someone couldn't help hamming it up.

He had lots of fun outside, which is always a good thing, and made a few snowmen in the process!

Only thing is, where we are, snow doesn't hang around very long, so you gotta take advantage of it when it is there.

Tomorrow, there's just going to be slushy mud everywhere. :(

Too Soon!

I am sure all of the Valentine stuff came out right after Thanksgiving or something.

le sigh.

AND, I am certain I would not want anyone to spend $89 whole bucks on a giant bear for me.
