Even MORE Critters.

Our camping chairs are such a magnet for bugs ... esp. now that we are in the thick of Summer with no end to the heat in sight.

More Critters

This one was harmless enough, hitching a ride on my chair this morning.

ALTHOUGH, IF I were a male mantis, and this one was female, things might have turned out QUITE differently.

#HazardsofCountryLiving

We have had rattlesnakes menace us in the past, but this one was camped out way too close to the humans.

The hubs didn't like to have to do it, but he took care of the problem for everyone's safety.

Way to Reuse, B Movie.

I cannot remember which movie this came from, as I am back-posting all the way here to August.  In real time, it is now January 2021 and I am blogging stuff from way back in 2020. I know. Weirdness...

Anyhow, it all started during the Pandemic - we have been going through all the Sci Fi B Movies that are available on Amazon Prime.

The hubs was the one who pointed this out. He went, "IS THAT A PIE PAN??"

Of course, we had to "rewind" and pause it so that we could look upon this amazing piece of set proppedness and snigger.

Seriously. It is basically a pie pan with a styrofoam cup stuck onto its back and everything sprayed silver.

Ingenius for the non-lingering shots.

The Pretty Morning Sky

A Scorching Day

Year in, year out, this is what Summer has come to be.

Not good.

And While We are on the Subject of Cats..

Here's a very modest Silky Manja the Wonder Cat with Pumpkin Highlights Tan-Woods

Score for Momma Cat

We have a bunch of wild cats that hang around our home, and yes, they are fed by the hubs, and as much I was not receptive to the idea at first, I have finally decided that it does have its benefits.

A few years ago, we had a scourge of rats hit us, being out in the country and all.  They bit through wires in the vehicles, set up their nests in all kinds of places, and generally did a bunch of damage. And they were huge suckers too.

Now, almost on a daily basis, I will see this particular Momma bring home a catch in the mornings for her babies.  Granted, her catch isn't usually as large as this one, but I am grateful to her and her compatriots for keeping the rodent population in check.

A Sizzling Summer

'nuff said.

Ehsaan on Insta Live

I have known Ehsaan since my medical school days way back in 1997 or 1998. We happened to frequent the same chat rooms on irc, and became friends from there. Through the years we have kept in touch, and he was often a sympathetic and friendly ear I could turn to during those difficult times in medical school. A lovely, lovely man.  I even had the chance to meet up with him and hang out with the rest of SEL when they were in Malaysia for an awards show back in the early 2000s.

So, when I found out by accident he was regularly being on Instagram Live, during this lockdown period, to be with fans and talk with them, and let them showcase their talent, and give them encouragement in their endeavors, it was a lovely surprise.

What was even lovelier was when he acknowledged me online to his fans, and got me to be online to chat for a bit - it was a sweet sweet thing.

Keep up what you're doing, Ehsaan. How thrilling for all the young people you have inspired.

Propane Run

Except this time, as we are currently not going out anywhere, we had someone help us get the propane instead. Not so romantic :)

Ugh

Need I say more?

*footnote: The indoor temp is misleading because the little receiver deal is placed near my laptop fan outlet.

The Big Blue Sky

I am sure I have mentioned on this blog before, that because Malaysia is in the tropics, and the part I lived in was a Peninsular surrounded by water, we would have clouds in the sky any time of the day or night.

Which is why, even though we have so many cloudless blue-sky days here in Abilene, I still marvel at them, and can't stop staring.

How beautiful.

Hurray for Free Samples

I can't help it, but I DO get a little thrill whenever Walmart decides to surprise us with some Free Samples.  They are few and far between but this time, there was quite a bounty.

Yes, during a Pandemic when you are home 24/7 and have not stepped out in quite a few months, THIS can be quite exciting. *sigh*

THEM!

During this Pandemic, we have been making full use of our Amazon Prime subscription and catching up on the Creature Flicks of the 50s and 60s.  We don't care if it is American, Mexican, Japanese or Korean.  We kind of watch them, like the dudes on MST3K.  They really ARE entertaining - even if the entertainment may be in marveling and giggling at how erm, less than stellar they are.

THEM! ( 1954 ) was head and shoulders above some that we had seen, though.

ANYWAY, this morning, on our morning walk, we saw a strange (foot)print on the ground, just like in the movie, and we immediately thought, "It's THEM!"

Hehe.

*sigh*

So, yet another Delivery Person got lost while trying to get our Groceries to us.

Worst part was, he was IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, and kept circling around and around.  And for some reason, he just wouldn't pick up his phone!

Eventually, though, I managed to get him, and he said that he had bad reception in this area etc.  We finally worked out that he HAD been by our house a few times, but because he hadn't read the instructions I had given in the "Instruction for Drivers" part of the order ( which was to put the groceries in the bin in front of the locked gate ), he assumed that it MUST NOT have been our house because the gate was locked.

The Morning Sky Series

Today there were some interesting wispy cirrus clouds overhead as Jaxon and I sat chatting.

Pretty.

What on Earth...

... is this Trilobite looking thing on our lawn chair??  I can only guess it was some sort of insect egg sac that has since said goodbye to its babies.

edit: after a minute of googling, it just MAY be a Praying Mantis Egg Case.

All may seem peaceful now...

But you can always count on some peskiness from the nocturnal Silkiness to be wide awake and ready to wreak havoc on your sleep night after night..

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night..

Well, maybe not soooo dramatic, but it DID rain some this morning.  However, we were not going to be intimidated, and decided to continue with our daily morning walk anyway. :)

I know, I needed the rain not to mess my hair up. It would have been a big wet oily mess by the time the walk was over.
