Only in America ...

Once in a while,

I get astounded about what is celebrated here..

From the bizarre to the worthy to the mundane and now, to thwart weight watchers everywhere, it's NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY!!!

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (PRNewswire) - WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., June 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

Could there be a sweeter day of the year? On Friday, June 3rd, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. celebrates National Doughnut Day by offering customers a free doughnut of their choice in participating stores throughout the U.S.

National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise much-needed funds during the Great Depression and to honor the work of World War I Salvation Army volunteers who prepared doughnuts for thousands of soldiers. National Doughnut Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.

"National Doughnut Day is a perfect time for us to give a little something back to our loyal customers throughout the country," said Stan Parker, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Krispy Kreme. "It's also a great opportunity to build awareness and acknowledge the continued good work of the Salvation Army."

heh, weird.

We do have some pretty dumb holidays. There's a few big ones I could mention but I'd probably get my butt kicked, so I'll keep my mouth shut!

I never knew there was a holiday for this. That's nutty.

Yeah, North Carolinians can be pretty non-health conscious. Not everyone, mind you, but a majority still love their doughnuts, coffee, eggs, bacon and grits. Calories, what the heck are those??

Yeah, glad that I moved to Cali where I don't look like a freak ordering egg-white veggie omelets.

The irony is that we get Krispy Kreme every Friday here at work.

Except today.

(The person who usually brings them was in a major car accident... but she was OK, thankfully.)

WOW! I missed doughnut day. Since I live in NC, I am usually around for it, but I'm in Virginia and the area that I am in does not have Krispy Kreme. KK is the BEST doughnuts in the world.
