Don't leave home without Sunscreen

If we want to get any time out at the yard at all, we have to go out just minutes after we wake up, otherwise, we would be battling indescribably messed up weather.

By the time I had time after coming back in from playing with and cleaning up the little boy and doing the morning chores, I turned on the computer to THIS

By 1 pm, it was already THIS.

Oh yeah, and THIS is the way it went down for the rest of the day..

Currently, at midnight, it is still 85 degrees. GAK!!!

Adventures in the Yard

We got this Fisher Price wacky flower sprinkler for July 4th several years ago,

It IS summer time after all

And to some of us in these here parts, it has seemed like summer for months now.

We even had a record 105 F yesterday, breaking a 33 year record.

So a few days ago, the pool from last year got cleaned up and deployed, much to the little boy's delight :)

Of course, little boys never want to climb up the slide the RIGHT WAY..

AND when they do come down the slide, it is accompanied by theatrics limited only by a child's burgeoning imagination.

The little boy thought it such a treat to be "on top of the world", he decided to do a little jig :)

Another excuse to have CAKE and ICE CREAM

We were over at Stephanie's yesterday to celebrate Tony and Todd's birthdays... can you tell I've been messing around with Pixlr over at Photobucket, where my pictures for the blog are hosted?

Photobucket

As usual, the food was excellent - hurray for Shana's enchiladas, followed by cake and ice cream...

But of course, all the little boy was interested in, was being able to go play in Max's and Jet's room :) He even let out a "ARE WE THERE YET??" for the first time ever, while we were driving there, which made the hubs and I chuckle. Another "today in history", folks.

Jaxon decided he wanted to be a pirate for the day - He had been singing, "I am a pirate, ARRRR ARRRR" just about all of yesterday.

But soon he got lost in space rangerism :)

Books, Glorious Books

I'm terribly guilty of telling the hubs that we don't have enough space for this, that and the other in our little house, and I'm constantly trying to find space for stuff, trying to organize and subtract.. etc.

BUT one thing we have come to agree that we will make an exception for, in a big way, is books for the little boy. So, when the annual book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library came around again, we made sure to stop by and see what gems we could find.

It's a massive sale held at the Abilene Civic Center, which was already teeming with people when we arrived. It almost seemed like a big majority of them were gathered around the ONE table I was interested in.. *sigh*. We spent maybe 45 minutes there, with the hubs keeping an eye on the little boy while I tried to go through the selection to find some books for Jaxon..

I might've should've stayed a little longer to go through the books a little bit more, but the sheer volume was making my head swim, but I know we got some gems. At $1.25 an inch for children's books was a bargain to say the least :)

We read some of the books before bed tonight, and the little boy was asking for more, so I know we didn't do THAT badly :)

A Trip to the Zoo

Last week, we had one day which was overcast, and cooler ( which is an amazingly big deal in these here parts ), and on a semi-whim, we decided to go to the zoo.

It turned out to be a fabulous idea. :)

The little boy was excited to NOT be in a stroller or some other confining contraption, and was pretty good most of the time about staying close by.

The last time we were here was probably for Boo at the Zoo, where the main concern was Halloween and not so much the animals, so this time around it was great to be able to leisurely walk through the different buildings and exhibits. :)

Feeding the giraffes is a major activity at the zoo, seeing how the giraffes are perpetually hungry for crackers AND their long slimy tongues freak little boys out so much - in a good and hilarious way :)

AND, to top it all off, we got to ride on the train! The little boy was super excited, waving to everyone we passed, and then when we were done, he would wave at the other people who were having THEIR turns.

And now, back to your regular programming..

Or at least that's what I hope...

It's been QUITE A WHILE since I posted.  I guess we're just getting back into the swing of things after Grandad's passing, and kinda finding our footing again, after the "artificially imposed" ( but certainly not unwelcome ) routines of the past what-seems-to-have-been-forever.

One thing I was working on - and of course it's always a work in progress - is the way the blog looks.

I was beginning to tire of the old layout ( dang, should've taken at least a screenshot of it before doing all this tweaking ).. and thought that the site needed a fresh new look.

Here's one from the archives of the "Way Back Machine".. the first one they ever archived of my site, way back in 2005.

Anyway, I came across this blog, "Makin' Cute Blogs" and found this really simple yet sooo sweet background to use and be the inspiration for the colors of the headers and what not.

Hopefully this will inspire me further to keep this updated more regularly, as well as Jaxon's blog.

I already have a post in mind, and am working on resizing and touching up the pics for it... keep an eye out and watch this space!
