Last weekend, we went to 2 lakes and a pretty little town for our Saturday Excursion.
So, THIS has been my view of the road ( other than the side windows ) 99% of the time. Call it over-spoilation/cautiousness, or whatever, but the little boy has had mummy sit by his side since he was born.
And speaking of the little boy.........
First stop was Lake Hubbard Creek Reservoir, where Abilene gets part of its water from. We were very pleasantly surprised when we came to the Mile Long Bridge, which had a beautiful view of the lake on both sides.
Right after crossing the lake, there was a simple yet beautiful rest area, with a even more breathtaking view. We could not believe it was totally deserted. We would have had our packed lunch there if we hadn't just had breakfast.

Jaxon looking back at the bridge aka "not cooperating for photographs"
Practising them mad walking skillz
We drove into the county roads that led deeper into the lake, and found out that there was a huge community of people living in there. We followed FM 2231 and ended up on Tanglewood Island ( E )
Where, among other things, we saw THIS curious sight. Some sort of pod or another. One of them ( the far one ) had a ladder leading up to a hatch/door. AND a Darth Vader scarecrow/effigy standing guard.
We wanted to get close to the water, so we drove down to one of the boat ramps.
"Hey Honey, say Cheese!"
"YOU say cheese. :)"
We passed by Breckenridge en route to our next destination. It was a very quaint little town, which, among other things, is the official "Mural Capital of Texas".
We managed to catch several as we cruised by.
Of course, sometimes I miss these sights because I'm busy doing THIS.... not that I would trade it with anything in the world, though :)
We finally get to (Lake) Possum Kingdom State Park and there are vehicles in front of us.....
and behind us.... We have an annual State Park pass ( and Grandad has a free lifetime pass ), and so with a zip zip zippity zap of the passes, we were through.
It was a warm and sunny day, and boy, were people out by the throngs.. in their RVs,
in their tents,
Or just enjoying the day facilities, like we were.
Of course, there was plenty of gasoline for boating and jet skiing.
Amazingly enough, we found a picnic table that was unoccupied, and claimed it for lunch.
We may have tired out Grandad a little, but I know he had a fabulous time. The little boy was so tuckered out that he slept just about the whole way home! Hurray for good naptimes.
This would be a really cool place to come back to when Jaxon's older and when it's not a holiday weekend :)
