The Cold Front is Here

David made me wake him up at 6 am today.

You read that right ..... SIX freakin' A.M.!

Well, it was all good coz Mr. No Tail was at the Vet's for surgery on his ear ( he had popped a vein in his ear, scratching it, and the ear had swelled all the way up ), and he is David's favourite cat, so it was understandable he was very anxious about it.

ANYWAY, he came into the house after coming home from the Vet's and said "Honey, you GOTTA come out and see this". So I trudged off to get a robe ( stole David's ) and grumpily walked outside to see what the big deal was.

I took one look outside, went "EEEEEEKKKK!!!!", and ran inside to get my camera.

It was the cold front .....

Awesome.

Boo at Being Sick

The Common Cold?

ittle did I know I was really going to be sick. I had been feeling a little off the morning we went to Watauga, but thought that I was probably tired or something, and then spent all of Sunday with a horrible sore throat, fever and post nasal drip ( ugh ). So, it was rest, Halls Mentholyptus lozenges and zinc chewables with lotsa green tea all day long. Good thing we had bought me some comfort food while at Fort Worth or I would have REALLY been miserable.

R.I.P Blackie

My other Siamese Fighting Fish died

Fishy died a year ago in August 2005 , and now Blackie's left us too...... at a ripe old age of 27 months. We will miss you immensely. Who will entertain me now with their spit fests and flaring of gills?

Goodbye Blackie.. we loved you very much.

Cindy ( David's older sister & Walter's mom ) somehow got us to get off our behinds and drive to Frances', for a visit. I think David was more enticed by the fact that there was a Costco at Fort Worth more than anything - other than getting to see his niece & her children, of course...

David's dad is a member of the local Kiwanis Club

and so we were down at the Abilene Civic Center on Friday for a good cause, supping ( I KNOW this is a word ) on chicken and fish..

Kiwanis annual fish fry attendance boosted by addition of chicken strips

The Key City Kiwanis may have to change the name of their annual fundraiser from the fish fry to the fish and chicken fry.

For the first time ever in the organization's 35 years, the Kiwanis added fried chicken to the menu.

''We're trying to appeal to some more people,'' said Randy Duwe, co-chair of the fish fry. ''This way we can cover everyone.''

The meal includes all-you-can-eat fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, bread and drinks.

By mid-afternoon, about 200 more people had bought tickets for the event than last year, Duwe said.

Mark Tate, a dedicated member of about 20 years, said over the years, the attendance figures stay at a pretty level trend.

''Now that we've added chicken, who knows what the future holds,'' Tate said.

Duwe said the club will definitely will keep their new menu item.

It will probably spark an increase in the number of ticket sales, he said.

Last year, the event raised between $10,000 and $11,000 for organizations around town - mostly those that cater to children, such as AISD Peer Assistance and Leadership; Adopt-A-School Fund; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Abilene; the Boys and Girls Clubs of Abilene; Ben Richey Boys Ranch; and the Day Nursery of Abilene.
