We went over to Redbud Park yesterday evening with Grandad,
hoping to catch the balloon glow at the annual Big Country Balloon Fest. It had been drizzling, and so we even made an effort to call the organizers to confirm if there was going to be a glow or not.
We were told, yes, most definitely so.
We got ready and reached there with time to spare. We thought it was strange that we didn't see any of the balloons out, but we found a place to park, and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
David then decided to walk over to the organizer's booth/tent to enquire.
A lady said, "Oh, a few minutes after you called, they decided to cancel the glow for tonight".
*grrr*
Today, it had been raining all day long - 3 inches' worth of rain, in fact.
However, the rain had stopped a few hours prior to when the balloon glow for this second night was scheduled, and the sun was out and brightly shining.
We called again. This time, it went straight to voicemail.
We thought, "what the heck" and decided to go anyway, just because for no apparent reason, I had some semblance of cabin fever by then. Maybe it was from lack of Vitamin D or something.
ANYWAY, we got there on the dot tonight, and saw this...
We thought, "Great, they decided to start early and now we've missed the whole danged thing".
*sigh*
We found a place to park anyway, and stayed in the car.
Several minutes later, a voice came over the loudspeaker telling the "pilots" to start getting ready for an "ALL TOGETHER/SYNCHRONIZED FLAME/GLOW" or something to that effect, and we were rewarded with this...
even if it was only for several seconds.
That made me feel somewhat vindicated for getting David to drive us out there a second night in a row.
See ya next year, balloons.
