The little boy could not contain his excitement when Saturday finally came along, and it was time for the first of the many Halloween/ Fall Festival outings. :)
It was a beautiful morning, and the leaves around Abilene had just started to change colors.
He was quite proud to be wearing one of his favorite characters on TV. I was thankful it came out okay, as I had tried to piece it together using various online tutorials.
As usual, when we got there, the party was in full swing and we had to park quite a ways away,
and take the long trek over to The Zoo.
Another shot of very pretty Fall Foliage.
The obligatory Giraffe "Obelisk" photo.
The kids love dressing up and getting candy and what not, but it just seems really awful that the kids have to stand in line and inch their way towards the booths.
It got much warmer later in the day, but we went earlier in the morning, and it was quite pleasant.
Several children shouted out at the little boy, "Hey, Patrick!", which made him beam with pride, and got me and the hubs tickled. The hubs exclaimed that he had never seen that before - kids calling out other kids' characters at them :P
When we were done with the various Trick or Treat booths, we went on to the Zoo Proper.
As usual, it was fun. In the past, the little boy would just pretty much glance at the animals and was more interested in going going going than hanging around, but this time, he was quite interested in the animals and hung back and read the different informative plaques and whatnot.
There was areas of shade as we strolled about, so I wasn't too worried about the little boy being too hot in his flannel costume.
He DID, however, finish off a bottle of water I was carrying around for him.
We didn't get to feed the giraffes because the platform out to them was closed,
but we did get to play some games,
and get to see the giraffes up close,
and some camels too!
FINALLY, we came up upon a bouncy castle,
and the little boy wasted no time getting in line for his turn.
Immature as it may seem, we couldn't get over seeing how you had to crawl out the back end to exit the bouncy alligator.
Next on our trek was the crazy hungry fishies.
We got a handful's worth for a quarter, and the hubs had also brought a little baggie of plain cheerios to feed the fishies and ducks.
And they went wild at anything we tossed down at them.
Then, the little boy entered the costume contest for the first time,
and although he didn't win a prize,
he had fun parading around and did his best. :)
No trip to the zoo could be complete without stopping at the Sand Box area.
By now, I had given up all hope of keeping his pant legs clean and just let go....
As we were close to the exit, we came across the second bouncy castle, which of course, the little boy NEEDED TO be a part of.
And finally, we pressed a penny as a souvenier of the day. :)
