Juneteenth
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday in the United States. Celebrated on June 19th, it commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas.
The Emancipation Proclamation had actually taken effect on Jan 1st 1863 but the news did not reach Texas until JUNE 19th 1865 !!
